Enquiries about WIPRO’s WASE

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

I think Wipro is trawling for some helpless people again. Now a days, after reading my blog on Wipro’s WASE story, people have started to call me or mail me. They want to further discuss about pros and cons of Wipro and its WASE program. Most of them are surprised with the facts and few are shocked to some extent.

But people ask the usual Qs.

1. Why did I write this blog? (more…)

Tap Water or Bottled water?

Monday, September 29th, 2008

After reading this post – 20 Reasons You Should Stop Consuming Bottled Waterr, I wanted to update you all on what I chose to drink during my K2K trip.

As you all know, it was a 19000km, 3 months long trip. I had to cover every single state of India. Food and Water were two major concerns of all my friends. People advised us to drink only bottled water and eat at decent places. But I did just the opposite… but why? (more…)

Guns, Germs and Steel

Saturday, September 27th, 2008

I was watching the documentary – “Guns, Germs and Steel”, a National Geographic documentary based on Jared Diamond’s book. In the documentary, Diamond argues that geography favoured cultivation of crops and animals. Efficient methods led to surplus food that could support inventions.

I think it is analogous to emancipation of Indian women. Earlier most of them had to spend time on household chores. Advent of machines have given them enough time to focus on freedom, education, rights and financial independence. Divorce rates in urban India is slowly increasing because women no longer have to stand the eccentricities of men any longer.

Woes of a cyclist in Bangalore

Wednesday, September 24th, 2008

Now and then the adrenalin rush prompts me to pick up my bicycle and head for a long drive. I have been trying to get my bike to office from past two weeks. But rains proved to be a big hindrance. But when I was going to sleep yesterday, I made up my mind to commute to office by bicycle.

I have commuted to office by bike several times. I clearly know what it takes to do so. (more…)

Largest collection of GPS trails of India

Monday, September 15th, 2008

Ever since I have completed my K2K motorcycle ride, I have been shortlisting photographs and tweaking GPS tracks. I have been uploading the photographs to Flickr and GPS tracks to EveryTrail.

Since all my photographs are geotagged, I believe that till date, my collection is the most diverse and completely geotaggedphotographs of India. Also, the largest collection of GPS tracks/trails of India (not numbers but distance and place wise) can be found under my profile in EveryTrail.

Here is a simple example of my trip output: (more…)

What is wrong with industries?

Saturday, September 6th, 2008

On my K2K trip, one of my shock absorbers gave away. I went to a shop in Tezpur to buy new shock absorber. I was asked to buy them in pairs. Why?

Last month my Tupperware lid came off. I was asked to buy the entire box not just the lid. Why?

Last year, my car’s headlight cover was damaged but I had to buy the entire set. Why?

I can just go on an on about listing such examples. And we all know the answer for my questions. Businesses want to make money. But at what cost? Can’t they help us all in producing less waste?

My petrol tank has been leaking for an year. I wanted to sell my LML Freedom today as I could not source the spare parts in Bangalore. Even the famous JC road could not help me much. Today I stumbled upon a shop in JC road. This seems to be one place in Bangalore where you can source all parts. My bike is now back into action. Here is the address if you want spare parts for your LML bikes and scooters in Bangalore

SK Scooter Parts
138/22/7, (Basement) Garla Mansion,
AM Road, Kalasipalyam New extension,
Bangalore – 560007
Ph: +91 80 41234299 / 22904922

I am happy that I am not creating any waste as long as I am getting all the necessary spare parts.

K2K Trip covered in Taranga

Thursday, September 4th, 2008

My K2K, In search of Water, trip has been elaborately covered by Taranga. The famous water journalist – Shree Padre, came down from Mangalore, spent an entire day with me and Silje to come up with that article. Padre has done a very nice job of summarizing the entire journey in 10 pages. This is the only article which truly talks about the trip and has many good photographs. Though many newspapers covered the trip at various places, the information was very limited because of the time issues. But Padre, together with Taranga has gone beyond all these limitations to come up with a true reflection of the trip.

Thanks a lot Shree.

Thank you Taranga.

It’s Official – I am an atheist

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008

From today, I am a self proclaimed atheist. My long founded doubts in religion have been finally cleared by Darwinism.

For many of my friends and relatives, this can be a shocking news. For many years I have been oscillating between theism and atheism. For few years I even remained agnostic. But my K2K trip changed many things… (more…)
