Spoke to Srivathsa Bhargava

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

Ever since I started planning for my K2K trip, I have been constantly trying to get in touch with enthusiastic people who could be my potential partners. Many people came forward to join me. But their enthusiasm died in few days. Hence I decided to do this trip all alone.

But today morning I pinged Srivathsa Bhargava for more information on his Uttaranchal trip. I have been to Uttaranchal and I love that place. I wanted to explore the possibilities of including Uttaranchal in my route. But conversation with Srivathsa went in a different direction. Now he wants to be a part of the trip.

One thing I could easily note in this guy – he is passionate about what he does. He may or may not join me but he would be my source of inspiration.

Where are the highways?

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

Google maps beautifully brings up NH 16… But the fact is (as of today), it is not at all operational. It is not a national highway but a NOTIONAL highway.

Another such wonderful highway is – NH 108. Though it appears to be a loop, it is not one. I searched for more information on NH 108. Could not get any online. Best part of this highway is that it passes through beautiful Himalayas.

I wish such highway ever existed.

I am now working on the final version of my K2K route.

Jagdalpur, Warangal, Hyderabad

Tuesday, February 26th, 2008

Today I sent out a mail to my colleagues at Arghyam seeking inputs on my revised K2K trip. Here are few things I need to consider -

Jagdalpur, Warangal, Hyderabad – Route is Naxalite stricken and I might find some land mines as souvenirs. Possibilities of getting looted, harassed etc. is more in that route. Probably I should avoid that route altogether. (more…)

Call from Roshan

Tuesday, February 12th, 2008

Today afternoon I received a call from Roshan. He had read my post on Royal Enfield forum and wanted to discuss more about my K2K trip.

Apparently, he is more experienced than I am. He has completed a similar bike ride and tried to spread awareness on HIV. This year he has bigger plans – to cover India, Nepal, Bhutan etc.

But my time lines and route conflict with his. I may not be able to join his ride. But I have lot to learn from this guy who is not even 20 years old.

Going East

Friday, February 1st, 2008

Earlier, my plans were just to cover K2K trip through western coast and come straight to Bangalore. Now I am planning to cover East too. I get to do this only once in my life. I am planning to do it as comprehensively as possible.

East has only two problems – Insurgents and Floods :)
