My tentative route from Kanyakumari to Kashmir would be

Bangalore to Kanyakumari – Train

Kanyakumari – Trivandrum – Kochi – NH 47 – 307km

NH 47NH 47NH 47NH 47
From Kochi reach Edapalli – 15km
Edapalli – Kozhikode – Mangalore – Goa – Panvel – Mumbai – NH 17

NH 17

Kanyakumari to Mumbai – Approx distance – 1600km – Beauty of Konkan could be explored on this route

Mumbai to Ahmedabad – NH 8 – 545km

NH 8

Ahmedabad – Samakhiali – NH 8A – Approx 300km

NH 8 A

Samakhiali – Pathankot – NH15 – 1527km – Via Thar Desert

NH 15

Pathankot – Hatli – (leave NH 20) – Dharamsala – Yol – Palampur (Rejoin NH 20)  -  Mandi – Kullu – Manali – (via NH 21) – 400 km

NH 20

Manali – Khardungla – 510km

Delhi 2 Khardung La

In all around – 1600 + 545 + 300 + 1527 + 400+ 510 = 4882 from Kanyakumari to Khardung La by bike
Khardung La to Delhi by bike – 1100km

Other than this I also need to consider the train distance from Bangalore to Kanyakumari and Delhi to Bangalore

Manali to Khardung La breakup

Manali – Keylong – 130
Keylong – Jispa Camp – 25
Jispa Camp – Sarchu – 84
Sarchu – Pang Camp – 77

Pang Camp – Upshi – 127

Upshi – Leh – 47
Leh – Khardung La – 20

The appalling distance will take me at least 2 months to cover… I may hv to find a less interesting and shorter route… :(

Bombay here I come

Thursday, September 27th, 2007

Plane hit the tarmac at 7:55AM. Captain announced that temperature outside is 27 degrees. When I got out of the plane humid air reminded me of Chennai and Mangalore. I was impressed by the renovated CST airport…

Andheri Railway StationMy first visit to Mumbai was in 2001 for an industrial tour in the final year of my degree. Second was for a connecting flight to Switzerland during my Germany trip. This is my third but real visit to Mumbai.I went to Andheri West with my colleague. Had breakfast and reached Andheri West Railway station… The crowd shocked me. I took a ticket to Thane.
I went to Dadar and caught a train to Thane.

Dadar Railway Station

I think my Mumbai visit will teach me a lot about the life of Mumbaikers…

Lost my cell :(

Today I was buying some fruits and vegetables at Madivala. Since I I don’t use plastic covers, I bent down to put vegetables into my carry bag. I believe my mobile must have fallen off from my shirt pocket at that moment.

Good bye dear phone. May the person who found you treat you well.

Thunderbird it is

Wednesday, September 12th, 2007

After lot of deliberation, I am closing on Thunderbird. It would be Silver/Black

motoheader

Why Thunderbird and not any other bike?

Here is my reasoning:

  • Good engine capacity – riding at 80-90kmph should not be an issue. I intend to go on long rides. So power is an essential feature
  • Stable at higher speeds.
  • Aluminium engine – better mileage. I don’t contribute much towards pollution.
  • Cruiser styling – comfortable for longer rides. Splicing through the city traffic could be little tougher
  • Has a fuel indicator (machismo doesn not have it)

The next question is – when do I buy it? May be in November/December. I need to arrange for some 1,02,000 rupees :)
