I am blogging all my research related to my abitious trip – Kanyakumari to Kashmir (Khardungla Pass) destined to happen sometime in 2008…
The first step would be to buy a bike – Still caught between Machismo and Thunderbird…
Second is to plan the route.
May be http://www.royalenfield.com/app/IN/navigator/Delhi-Leh-Khardung.asp would act as the initial resource
I would reach Kanyakumari by train. The aerial distance between Kanyakumari and Khardungla is around 2800km. So by road it would be around 3700km. Considering an average of 250km per day, I would need at least 10-12 days to reach Delhi and another 15-20 days to reach Khardungla. In all it would be a project of around 40 days.
The tentative start date would be around end of July 2008 (one year from this day). By that time
- I should learn to do some minor bike repairs
- I should learn to change the tube/tyre
- I should find few other people who would be willing to join me for the trip.
Tentative cost is something like this
- Petrol – 150ltrs = Rs.9000
- Food/acc – Rs.500 per day = Rs.20000
- Bike service – Rs.600 per service = Rs.2500
- Misc exp. – Rs.5000+
In all it would cost around Rs.40000
More updates as and when I progress in this project
